Advertising Acceptability Policy
Last updated: August 2026
This policy sets out what may and may not be promoted through Flyercat. It applies to every business using the platform and forms part of our Terms & Conditions. By submitting a promotion, you confirm it complies with this policy and with all applicable law.
1. Who this policy applies to
This Advertising Acceptability Policy (the “Policy”) applies to every business, sole trader, and any agency or individual acting on their behalf (“advertisers”, “you”) that creates, submits, or distributes promotional content (“promotions”, “ads”) through Flyercat.
It forms part of, and should be read alongside, our Terms & Conditions. Where the two differ on advertising standards, this Policy applies.
You are responsible for every promotion you submit — including any claim, price, image, or offer within it — whether it was created by you or on your behalf.
2. The standards you must meet
All promotions published through Flyercat must comply with the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (the CAP Code), administered by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
Promotions must also comply with all other applicable UK law, including but not limited to:
- The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 — no misleading actions, misleading omissions, or aggressive practices.
- The Business Protection from Misleading Marketing Regulations 2008 — for any business-to-business advertising.
- UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 — for any personal data you collect, use, or reference.
- The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 — clear identification of the seller and of the commercial nature of the promotion.
- The Online Safety Act 2023 — no illegal content, and nothing harmful to children.
- Sector-specific rules where relevant — for example FCA rules for financial promotions, MHRA rules for medicines, and Gambling Commission rules for gambling.
This list is not exhaustive. It is your responsibility to know and follow the law that applies to your business and to the promotions you run.
3. Core principles — legal, decent, honest and truthful
Following the CAP Code, every promotion on Flyercat must be legal, decent, honest and truthful, and prepared with a sense of responsibility to consumers and to society.
- Honest and not misleading — do not exaggerate, omit material information, or create a false impression, whether through wording, imagery, or overall presentation.
- Substantiated — hold documentary evidence for any objective claim before you publish it (see section 7).
- Clear — material terms, conditions, and limitations must be obvious, not buried or hidden.
- Socially responsible — do not cause serious or widespread offence, exploit vulnerability, or condone harmful behaviour.
- Recognisable as marketing — promotions must be clearly identifiable as advertising.
4. Promotions we will not accept
We will not publish promotions for, or that contain, any of the following. This list is not exhaustive, and we may reject anything we reasonably consider unacceptable.
- Illegal goods, services, or activity of any kind.
- Weapons, firearms, ammunition, knives sold as weapons, or other offensive weapons.
- Illegal drugs, psychoactive substances, or drug paraphernalia.
- Counterfeit, replica, or stolen goods, or anything that infringes another party’s intellectual property.
- Content that is discriminatory, hateful, or harassing, or that incites violence against any person or group.
- Pornographic or sexually explicit content, and adult services.
- Content likely to cause serious or widespread offence, fear, or distress without justifiable reason.
- Misleading “get rich quick”, pyramid, or other unfair or deceptive money-making schemes.
- Promotions that target or exploit children, or that present age-restricted products in a way likely to appeal to under-18s.
- False, unsubstantiated, or exaggerated claims — including fake discounts, invented “was” prices, or non-existent stock or urgency.
- Content that promotes self-harm, eating disorders, or other serious harm.
5. Promotions we accept only with conditions
The following may be promoted only where they are lawful, meet the relevant sector rules, and carry any required information or safeguards. We may ask for evidence before publishing.
| Category | Conditions that apply |
|---|---|
| Alcohol | Must follow the CAP Code alcohol rules — not targeted at under-18s, not linking alcohol to social or sexual success, and not encouraging irresponsible drinking. |
| Food & drink (HFSS) | Products high in fat, salt, or sugar must not be directed at children; nutrition and health claims must be authorised under GB-retained Regulation 1924/2006. |
| Financial products & services | Must comply with FCA rules, be clear, fair and not misleading, and carry any required risk warnings. Consumer credit must show a representative APR where applicable. |
| Health, medicines & medical devices | No claims to cure or prevent disease unless permitted; medicines must be authorised; comply with MHRA rules and the CAP health & beauty rules. |
| Weight control & slimming | No irresponsible claims; comply with the CAP Code rules on weight control. |
| Cosmetics & beauty | Efficacy claims must be substantiated and must not be exaggerated. |
| Gambling & lotteries | Licensed operators only; socially responsible; not targeted at or appealing to under-18s; include safer-gambling messaging. |
| Age-restricted products (e.g. vaping, knives, fireworks) | Sold and promoted lawfully, with age verification, and not presented in a way likely to appeal to under-18s. Nicotine-vaping ads are heavily restricted — check the CAP Code before running one. |
| Prize draws, competitions & free offers | Must follow the CAP Code promotional-marketing rules — clear significant conditions, closing dates, availability, and how winners are selected and notified. |
| Environmental & “green” claims | Must be accurate, substantiated, and must not omit material information; avoid vague terms such as “eco-friendly” without evidence. |
Some products — for example prescription-only medicines, and certain financial and gambling products — carry rules beyond the scope of this Policy. If you are unsure whether your promotion is acceptable, ask us before you submit it.
6. Pricing, offers and discounts
Prices and offers must be genuine and accurate at the time of publication. If you show a saving or a “was” price, the higher price must be one at which the product was genuinely and recently available for a reasonable period.
- State the total price the consumer will pay, including any unavoidable charges, or explain how it will be calculated.
- Make the significant conditions of any offer clear — closing dates, availability, quantity limits, and who is eligible.
- Do not create false urgency or scarcity (for example countdowns or “only 2 left” that are not true).
- Honour every promotion you publish while it is live, and for anyone who reasonably relies on it.
7. Evidence and substantiation
Before you submit a promotion, you must hold documentary evidence to support any objective claim it makes — for example about price, quality, performance, provenance, or results.
You must be able to provide that evidence to Flyercat, or to the ASA, on request. If you cannot substantiate a claim, do not make it.
8. Targeting and responsibility to consumers
Flyercat is a hyperlocal platform, and promotions may be delivered based on location and real-world triggers. You must use that reach responsibly.
- Do not target age-restricted products at audiences likely to include a disproportionate number of under-18s.
- Do not exploit the vulnerability, inexperience, or credulity of any consumer.
- Make sure the promotion is suitable for a general local audience, which may include children.
9. Your responsibilities and our rights
You remain the advertiser and are solely responsible for the promotions you submit and for their compliance with this Policy and the law. Flyercat reviews promotions but does not warrant that any promotion is compliant, and our acceptance of a promotion does not transfer responsibility to us.
- We may refuse, edit, pause, or remove any promotion we reasonably consider to breach this Policy or the law, at any time and without notice.
- We may ask you for evidence to support a claim, before or after publication.
- We may suspend or close the account of any advertiser who repeatedly or seriously breaches this Policy, in line with our Terms & Conditions.
10. Complaints and reporting
If you believe a promotion on Flyercat breaches this Policy, tell us at info@flyercat.com and we will review it.
You may also complain to the Advertising Standards Authority, which regulates UK advertising, at asa.org.uk.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in law, regulation, or our services. The “last updated” date above shows when it last changed. Continued use of Flyercat after we publish an update means you accept the revised Policy.
